How vacancy data is organised

Post or force

Each post/force can have a separate total and eligibility condition.

Category

UR, EWS, OBC, SC, ST and other horizontal reservations are shown according to the notice/data.

Department or region

Some examinations allocate vacancies across departments, forces, offices or regions.

Revision status

Tentative vacancies can rise, fall or be redistributed before final allocation.

Use vacancy numbers correctly

  1. Confirm the examination year.
  2. Open the notice and the latest tentative/final vacancy document, if issued.
  3. Check the post, force, region and category row that applies to you.
  4. Do not treat a total headline as vacancies available to one category or state.
  5. Recheck when option preference, document verification or allocation opens.

Vacancy and selection probability

A larger vacancy total does not automatically make an examination easy. Applicant volume, paper difficulty, normalization, post preferences, physical/medical standards and category distribution all affect the outcome. Prepare to the selection standard rather than a predicted vacancy-to-candidate ratio.

Important: Do not publish or rely on “expected vacancy” tables without an identifiable official source and year.

Vacancy FAQs

Are tentative vacancies final?

No. Participating departments can revise them and SSC may publish an updated statement.

Why does the total not match my category?

The headline total includes multiple categories, posts, regions or forces.

Where is the safest vacancy source?

Use the examination notice and the latest vacancy document linked from ssc.gov.in.
